In Primary 3/4 and 5 this week we are focusing on the understanding of, identifying and using speech marks in narrative writing and stories. In particular we have been using familiar fairy tales to look at the use of speech marks. We located speech marks today in books from our class library. We made our own examples of speech marks in narrative for display. To emphasise the speech marks in our writing, we used cut up straws and pipe cleaners for the speech marks. The children said it was great fun, but they were learning.
