Problem solving and using a budget in P6/7
This week in Numeracy we have been developing our problem solving and thinking skills whilst using and applying our knowledge and understanding of money and number.
The boys and girls were given the task to plan a camping/glamping trip for a family. They had a set of requirements which needed to be met plus they used their knowledge of number to determine the most cost effective packages and items needed for the best trip. They worked well in small groups and the mathematical language being used was superb! Each group then designed a poster show-casing their planned trips with costs, activities, meals etc and presented to the class. The learning opportunities in this activity were amazing and the children were very engaged in their learning. They calculated total amounts, multiplied figures, worked out percentages and made decisions which they were able to explain! This also provided some excellent life skills in money management and budgeting- choosing the most cost effective and valuable items whilst sticking to a budget. Super work everybody!
