St Malachy's Primary School, Kilclief, Downpatrick

Board of Governors

The Board of Governors has overall responsibility for the effective management of the school. The members are mostly made up of parents whose children attend or attended St Malachy's Primary School, and some are also past pupils themselves.

The current Board of Governors is made up of the following members:

  • Fionnuala Magee, Chair and Trustee
  • Aideen Martin, Vice Chair & EA Representative
  • Rev Fr. John Mc Manus, Trustee
  • Caylan Ellesmere, Trustee
  • Paul Flanagan, Trustee
  • Tracy Kearney, Secretary & Parent Nominee
  • Emer McVeigh, Teacher Nominee

The role of the Board of Governors is to work closely with the Principal to provide the best possible education and educational opportunities for all the pupils, to administer the school curriculum, contribute to school development and ensure good governance.  The children are at the forefront of what the Board of Governors does.  All members work in a voluntary capacity and meet several times per year as well as on individual projects to support the progress of the school.

The Board of Governors is always delighted in any interest from parents, guardians or members of the community to become a Governor.  In accordance with the Education Authority guidance, the next re-constitution of the Board will take place in 2023.

If a parent, guardian or member of the community has a specific issue or suggestion they would like to raise with the school, the first point of call is the relevant teacher.  Should the teacher be unable to address the matter, the next point of contact is the Principal.  Should the matter still require further attention, the parent, guardian, or member of the community can raise this with the Board of Governors.

The Chair of the Board of Governors can be contacted via the school: info@stmalachyspskilclief.downpatrick.sch.ni.uk
